ASPIRINA 500mg (aspirin)
ASPIRINA 500mg (aspirin)
Medication indicated in case of fever and pain of mild to moderate intensity.
Brand: ASPIRINA
Description:
Acetylsalicylic acid is, like all NSAIDs, a non-specific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). It irreversibly acetylates this enzyme.
COXs are key enzymes of the arachidonic acid cascade, by which arachidonic acid, a lipid present in cell membranes, is transformed into prostanoid mediators. There are two types, COX-1, present in almost all tissues; and COX-2 induced locally by cytokines produced by leukocytes in response to microbial damage or invasion. COX-2 plays an important role in generating inflammation.
It produces pro-inflammatory prostanoid mediators, such as some prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Inhibition of these enzymes by acetylsalicylic acid constitutes the main mechanism of its effects. COX-1 inhibition is responsible for many unwanted effects.
