The test is suitable for untrained and inexperienced users as a self-test to facilitate the diagnosis of HIV-1 and HIV-2 infection, using a small drop of blood (50 µL) obtained through finger prick sampling procedures and results in 1 minute. The INSTI Screen HIV Self-Test is an in vitro diagnostic medical device CE 0543.
Short description (250 characters):
The INSTI Screen HIV Self-Test is a continuous-flow, rapid, disposable, in vitro qualitative immunoassay for the detection of antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (anti-HIV 1) and type 2 (anti-HIV 2) in human whole blood taken from a finger prick.
Recommended use:
Recommended use for anyone who wants to check the presence of type 1 (anti-HIV 1) and type 2 (anti-HIV 2) antibodies in the blood.
Limitations:
In some cases, samples may require longer flow times than normal. This is due to variable factors, such as the cellular components contained in the whole blood sample.
When performing the HIV INSTI self-test for HIV antibodies, you must follow the instructions for the testing procedure and interpretation of results.
This test has not been validated for the detection of anti-HIV-1 group N subtype antibodies.
As several factors can cause nonspecific reactions, patients with a positive result on the HIV INSTI self-test should confirm the result through medical examinations.
The presence of anti-HIV antibodies indicates previous exposure to HIV and does not represent a diagnosis of AIDS, which can only be made by a doctor.
A negative result does not rule out exposure to HIV.
