Brufen is used for the short-term symptomatic treatment of:
Mild to moderate pain such as headaches, including those associated with migraines, toothaches, muscle pain, bruises, post-traumatic pain, and pain associated with flu-like illnesses. It is also indicated for menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhea) and for treating fever lasting less than three days.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) derived from propionic acid with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects, presumably acting by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, resulting in a marked reduction in prostaglandin synthesis. These properties provide relief from symptoms of inflammation, pain, and fever.
Recommended use: Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age (≥ 40 kg): For short-term oral use only. The ibuprofen dose depends on the patient's age and body weight. In adults and adolescents, the maximum single daily dose of 400 mg of ibuprofen should not be exceeded. More than 400 mg at a time does not provide improved analgesic effect. At least a 4-hour interval should be left between doses. The total dose should not exceed 1200 mg of ibuprofen in a 24-hour period. Adult and adolescent patients should consult a doctor if symptoms persist or worsen, or if Brufen is required for more than 3 days in case of fever and 5 days in case of pain. The initial dose is 200 mg or 400 mg of ibuprofen. If necessary, additional doses of 1 or 2 equivalent tablets (200 mg to 400 mg of ibuprofen) may be taken up to 3 times a day, spaced 4 to 6 hours apart. If adolescents require this medication for more than 3 days, or if symptoms worsen, consult a doctor. To achieve a faster maximum effect, Brufen should be administered on an empty stomach. Patients with a sensitive stomach are advised to take Brufen with food.
