Buscopan belongs to a group of medications classified as antispasmodics. The active ingredient in Buscopan, butylscopolamine, exerts a spasmolytic effect on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, meaning it relaxes the gastrointestinal muscles when they are contracted in a non-regulatory manner (spasm), providing relief from abdominal pain. Buscopan is indicated for the relief of abdominal pain or discomfort associated with transient and moderate spasms of the gastrointestinal tract. - if you suffer from myasthenia gravis (weakness in volunteers) or megacolon (abnormal dilation of the large intestine); - if you suffer from a rare hereditary disease that may be incompatible with any of the medication's excipients.

Recommended use:

The usual dose of Buscopan for adults and children over 6 years of age is as follows: 1 to 2 tablets (10 to 20 mg), 3 to 5 times a day. In specific situations, the dosage indicated above may be changed, but only under your doctor's guidance. The coated tablets should be swallowed whole (without chewing or breaking) with liquid. Buscopan should not be administered continuously daily or for long periods without first investigating the cause of abdominal pain. Many of Buscopan's effects are associated with its anticholinergic properties. However, these effects are generally mild and limited. The following may occur: - dry mouth; - difficulty sweating; - very fast heart rate; - difficulty urinating.
