Dioralyte, after being dissolved in water, is a solution that is indicated for correcting water and salt loss in infants, children and adults in cases of diarrhea and/or vomiting.

Recommended use:

The amount of Dioralyte solution to be taken is decided by the doctor, taking into account the patient's weight and the state and degree of dehydration. A basic principle of treating diarrhea is the rapid replacement of lost fluids, followed by maintaining sufficient fluid intake to compensate for the continued loss in stool.

It is recommended to ingest 150 ml/kg of weight in the case of infants and 20-40 ml/kg of weight in children and adults.

Infants: Dioralyte should be administered in quantities equivalent to 1 - 1.5 times the usual daily food volume.

Children (1-12 years): 1 sachet after each bowel movement (200 ml)

Adults (including elderly patients): 1 or 2 sachets after each bowel movement (200 - 400 ml)

Initially, larger amounts may be necessary to quickly replace lost fluids. When starting treatment for diarrhea, all foods, including cow's milk, should be discontinued. However, breastfeeding should not be discontinued. For breastfeeding infants, it is recommended that the child be given the appropriate volume of Dioralyte and then allowed to breastfeed until satisfied. After symptoms disappear (usually 24–48 hours), a normal diet can be gradually reintroduced to prevent a worsening of symptoms.

When nausea or vomiting occurs, frequent intake of small amounts of Dioralyte is recommended. However, it is important to take the full amount of Dioralyte required.

Reconstituting the solution: The contents of each sachet should be dissolved in 200 ml of drinking water. Use drinking water for adults and children. For infants, the water should be boiled and cooled. The solution should be prepared immediately before use. If stored in the refrigerator, the solution can be kept for 24 hours; otherwise, it should be discarded one hour after reconstitution.

The solution should not be boiled.
